Factory License

Mandatory Compliance for Manufacturing Units

A Factory License is a statutory approval issued under the Factories Act, 1948, which governs the working conditions in manufacturing establishments. It is granted by the State Labour Department / Chief Inspector of Factories and ensures that factories comply with safety, health, and welfare provisions for workers.

This license is mandatory for all premises where manufacturing activities are carried out with:

  • 10 or more workers (with power) OR

  • 20 or more workers (without power).

Registration Process

  1. Application Submission – File application with the State Labour Department / Directorate of Factories.

  2. Submission of Documents – Upload incorporation, site plan, and factory details.

  3. Inspection / Scrutiny – Department verifies safety, health, and working conditions.

  4. Grant of License – On approval, a Factory License is issued for lawful operations.

Validity & Renewal

  • Factory License is generally valid for 1 year (some states allow up to 5 years).
