Registration Process
  1. Application Filing – Submit application to State or Central Legal Metrology Department.

  2. Document Verification – Authorities verify company details, packaging, and product information.

  3. Inspection (if applicable) – Physical inspection of premises, machinery, and packaging labels.

  4. Approval & License Issue – On successful scrutiny, the Legal Metrology Certificate is issued.


Validity & Renewal
  • The license/registration is generally valid for 1 year to 5 years depending on the state.

  • Must be renewed before expiry to continue lawful operations.


Penalties for Non-Compliance

❌ Fine up to ₹25,000 for first offense.
❌ Fine up to ₹50,000 or imprisonment for repeat offenses.
